Summer in Riga begins at the Castle of Light!
This summer, we invite you to rediscover one of Riga's most remarkable landmarks of architecture and culture – the National Library of Latvia (NLL), also known as the Castle of Light. Join one of our guided tours!
In summer, the city settles into a different rhythm, and every new experience becomes an adventure.
Did you know...?
Why is the building called the Castle of Light?
What's in the NLL collection?
Why is every floor of the library a different colour?
Shhh! …and in which reading room is talking out loud perfectly acceptable?
Where did architect Gunārs Birkerts "frame" the view of St. Peter's Church?
On a hot summer day, the library offers a cool and comfortable place to relax. During a summer shower or thunderstorm, it becomes a welcoming shelter where you can browse the bookshelves and discover the perfect book for your summer reading.
And from the top of the Castle of Light, you'll enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Daugava River, the Old Town, and Pārdaugava.
Rediscover the Castle of Light through its architecture, cultural stories, and unforgettable views.
