A Fresh Start for Reading
A national-scale reading policy and a shared commitment to building strong reading habits in Latvia
Reading makes your life better. This is the right day to start!
The National Library of Latvia’s public engagement movement “A Fresh Start for Reading” brings together a network of libraries, schools, and volunteers.
“A Fresh Start for Reading” also stands for a national-scale reading policy and a shared commitment to building strong reading habits in Latvia.
The National Library of Latvia studies reading habits and carries out various reading promotion activities. Here you can receive support from librarians in reading rooms, visit exhibitions, events, tours, and workshops dedicated to reading and books.
And yet — everything does not start with programmes or strategies, but with one person and one book.
At the moment you open a book. Your restart starts here!
The Children, Youth, and Parents Jury
The ‘Children, Youth and Parents Jury’ programme is designed to be simple and easy to follow – anyone can join in active reading while building the habit of frequent library visits. The 2025 collection included 29 books across six age groups: 5+, 7+, 9+, 11+, 15+, and also the Parents Jury.
