John Fitzgerald Kennedy Reading Room
Level 3
Reading Room
The reading room named after John Fitzgerald Kennedy has been operating since October 2015, when the idea of creating an American information center in the new LNB building, which originated in the 1990s, was implemented.
The basis of the collection was initially formed by publications from the former US Embassy Information Center library.
For the first 10 years of operation, books, periodicals, and databases were subscribed to by the US Embassy in Latvia, but since 2025, the collection has no longer been supplemented.
The bulk of the collection consists of publications on US history, domestic and foreign policy, culture, art, as well as fiction.
Special attention is paid to the history and significant figures of modern and contemporary, jazz, and improvisational music in the United States.
The art collection includes publications from the One on One series published by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a 3-volume publication dedicated to the history of photography – Photography at MoMA .
Books for reading outside the library
Registered readers of the NLL can obtain books from the John F. Kennedy Reading Room collection for use outside the library (code AIC) in the Technology and Science Reading Room by contacting a reading room employee.
Books are issued for one month for home reading.
Canadian Cultural Club Collection
The reading room houses the collection of the Canadian Cultural Club, which was created to promote Canadian culture, politics, and literature.
These are publications in various fields in English and French, as well as children's and young adult literature.
The Canadian collection has not been systematically developed and supplemented, but has been formed from gifts and donations from the Canadian Embassy and private individuals.
